Rehabilitation
From Drug Rehab Wiki
Rehabilitation means the restoration of health and well-being, or even of character. Sociologists speak about the rehabilitation of criminals, for example.
In terms of substance abuse, rehabilitation centers are places where people who have become psychologically or chemically dependent on a substance or some unhealthy activity undergo intensive therapy to learn to lead lives without these unhealthy addictions or compulsions. Rehabilitation is usually about treating "the whole person," in that the habit is only a symptom of a lifestyle that needs to change. That is why rehabilitation centers not only provide extensive counseling, they also are places where people can find new hobbies, learn to cope with stress without using chemicals, plan career changes, develop healthier relationships with their families and friends, and deal with any underlying psychological issues, such as depression or anxiety, that are masked by substance abuse. Programs can be residential, where patients live there 24-hours a day, or intensive all-day courses.
