Metadate CD is another version of Ritalin, which is the brand name version of mthylphenidate. A psychostimulant, Metadate is often used to treat children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder or ADHD. The medication is also used to treat those suffering from narcolepsy. The drug is also found in off-label versions, which are used to treat lethargy, depression, neural insult and obesity.

Metadate CD operations as a potent central nervous system stimulant. It is derived from amphetamine and is believed to exert its effect by enhancing dopaminergic transmission in the brain. When the drug is sold on the street, it can be found in a variety of brands and by the names Rids, Pineapple, Uppers, Vitamin R. Jif and Rball.

Abuses of Metadate CD

Like Ritalin, Metadate CD presents a high potential for abuse. Many individuals who develop a problem with Metadate CD often obtain the medication through legitimate prescriptions.

Whether the abuser obtains the medication due to an ADHD problem or they purchase them from someone who does, addiction is easy to develop when the medication is taken to stay awake. When a euphoric effect is desired, Metadate CD is crushed and then ingested through intranasal and intravenous means. It may also be smoked. Metadate CD is a close pharmaceutical equivalent to cocaine due to its impact on the central nervous system. As a result, many abusers will use it to increase alertness, attention and energy. While these appear to be benefits to the user, they are also accompanied by increases in blood pressure, heart pressure and breathing.

Effects of Metadate CD

The effects that Metadata CD can create for the user is the main reason it is prescribed and abused. As a stimulant, the medication can cause difficulty sleeping, a loss of appetite, irritability, nervousness, stomach aches, headaches, dry mouth, blurred vision, nausea, drowsiness and dizziness.

When this medication is used outside of a doctor’s care and a habit is formed, it can cause a number of significant physical reactions, which can include an irregular heartbeat, dangerously high body temperatures, potential for cardiovascular failure or seizures, demonstrated hostilities, feelings of paranoia, verbal tics, uncontrolled movements and difficulty urinating.

Withdrawal of Metadate CD

If Metadate CD is stopped abruptly after substantial and prolonged use, a dysphoric mood can develop within a few hours or even several days after the cessation of the drug or even a reduction in its application. This mood can be very difficult for the user, leading to continued use of the drug.

Withdrawal symptoms associated with Metadate CD can include, but are not limited to:

• Fatigue

• Vivid, unpleasant dreams

• Insomnia or Hypersomnia

• Increased appetite

• Psychomotor retardation

Treatment of Metadate CD Addiction

With the growth in the prescriptions written for medications to treat ADHD, as well as the growth in the number of individuals taking it for illicit means, abuse is rapidly growing. The treatment of an addiction to Metadate CD can vary depending upon the patient and the level of addiction.

The first step is for a patient to be evaluated by a board-certified physician and a board-certified psychiatrist to determine the proper method for treatment. Detoxification is necessary, and the doctor may recommend 24/7 treatment. A quality treatment center will recommend a comfortable detox method as the body has become accustomed to having Metadate CD in its system and needs to learn how to function without the drug.
