Mazindol is the generic name for the brand name medications Sanorex and Mazanor. It is a sympathomimetic amine, similar to an amphetamine and is also know as an “anorectic” or an “anorexigenic” drug. This medication is used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity.

Mazindol works by increasing the heart rate and blood pressure while decreasing the appetite. It is generally taken one to three times a day before meals and is in the categories central nervous system agents/CNS stimulants and central nervous system agents/anorexiants.
