Holistic treatment is an alternative form of therapy used to treat addiction and other disorders. Although holistic medicine has been practiced for more than 5,000 years, it only started gaining popularity in the Western culture during the twentieth century.

Holistic programs focus on treating the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—in treating addiction and other ills. Holistic treatment assumes that all parts of the individual need healing, not just the body.

Many rehabilitation centers offer holistic treatments, which can include:

  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Art Therapy
  • Drama Therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Nutritional Counseling

Some drug rehabs call themselves holistic drug rehabs simply to designate that they offer yoga or maybe meditation, so it's important to determine if they have a truly holistic program focusing on all aspects: physical health, mental health, spiritual health, and emotional health.
