Drug replacement therapy
From Drug Rehab Wiki
Drug replacement therapy is the practice of prescribing specific drugs to help an addict withdraw or quit another drug. The most well known replacement therapy is methadone for heroin addiction.
There is some controversy around drug replacement therapy because many object to the switching of one drug for another, particularly in cases of young people who have only been addicted for a short period of time.
Drug replacement therapy can also be used only for the detox period to help someone withdraw from alcohol or opiate medications with fewer extreme withdrawal symptoms. In this type of drug replacement therapy, the patient is weaned from the replacement drug over the course of the first week to 10 days in treatment.
