Desoxyn
From Drug Rehab Wiki
Desoxyn is the brand name for the generics methamphetamine, methamphetamine hydrochloride and dextromethamphetamine. This central nervous system stimulant is generally prescribed for patients who suffer from attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
The drug has been shown to increase attention and decrease impulsiveness in ADHD patients. Known on the street as meth, speed, crystal, glass, ice, crank and yaba, Desoxyn is also used to treat exogenous obesity as a short-term medication. The projected benefits of the weight loss use must be weighed against the potential of risk in using the drug.

Abuses of Desoxyn
Desoxyn is known to be very addicting. If taken for long periods of time or if it is misused or abused, the drug can cause heart complications, elevated blood pressure and even death. In long-term use, tolerance, extreme psychological dependence and severe social disability have occurred.
Patients have been known to increase the recommended dosage to achieve a euphoric high. Continued use at high dosages puts the person’s life at risk. Abruptly stopping such high doses can result in extreme fatigue and mental depression. An overdose can produce adverse reactions as well, including severe dermatoses, marked insomnia, irritability, hyperactivity, and personality changes.
Effects of Desoxyn
Desoxyn is a sympathomimetic amine with CNS stimulant activity. As a result, it can elevate systolic and diastolic blood pressures and produce weak bronchodilator and respiratory stimulant action.
The drug has been known to reduce weight in those with extreme obesity, but only in the short term. It is still unknown whether the drug acts as an appetite suppressant or applies other methods for reducing weight. ADHD suffers have also reported success with the drug, despite the risks of dependence and abuse.
Patients using Desoxyn even for medical reasons and under a doctor’s care can still suffer certain effects, such as the slowing of growth in children, seizures, eyesight changes, fast heartbeat, decreased appetite, tremors, headache, trouble sleeping, dizziness, upset stomach and dry mouth.
Withdrawal of Desoxyn
The body can develop an intense addiction to Desoxyn and a person who finds themselves physiologically and psychologically dependent upon the drug may find it very difficult to function without it. An abrupt discontinuation of the drug can create unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
Withdrawal symptoms associated with the removal of Desoxyn from the body can include, but are not limited to:
• Depression
• Stomach cramps
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• The shakes
• Tiredness
Treatment of Desoxyn Addiction
A Desoxyn addiction can be life-threatening. For those taking the drug for its intoxication effects, dependence can occur rapidly, making it difficult to discontinue the drug. Desoxyn is designed for short-term use only and extending use or increasing dosage as a result of dependence can create significant problems for a person once they seek to discontinue the medication.
As this dependence can be both psychological and physiological, it is recommended that users taper off the medication slowly under the care of a board-certified physician and board-certified addiction psychiatrist. A quality center can administer a comfortable detox regimes for 24/7 care that will ensure the individual rids their body of the drug completely, learning to function without it.
