Bontril is the brand name for the generic Phendimetrazine. It can also be found under such brand names as Adipost, Anorex-SR, Appecon, Bontril PDM, Bontril Slow Release, Melfiat, Obezine, Phendiet, Plegine, Prelu-2 and Statobex. Bontril is known as a sympathomimetic amine and is similar to an amphetamine.

Bontril is generally used as a short-term supplement to diet and exercise in the treatment of obesity, although it can be used for other purposes. Bontril works to stimulate the central nervous system to increase the heart rate and blood pressure, while decreases the appetite.

Health care professionals will warn that taking diet pills is one of the most dangerous methods for losing weight and should only be taken under the close care of a physician.

Abuses of Bontril

As is true with all diet pills, Bontril is well-known to be habit forming. An individual taking the medication can become physically and psychologically dependent. Bontril is highly addictive due to its close pharmacological relationship to amphetamines. Medications such as Bontril can be available just about everywhere through illicit means, leading to a growing dependence problem.

After a short amount of time taking Bontril, a tolerance can easily develop and the individual will take more and more of the medication to achieve the same desired effect. As a result, a full blown dependency develops. An addiction Bontril often results from the substances found in their ingredients, such as caffeine, ephedrine, and phenylpropranolamine, to name just a few. Effects of Bontril

Bontril is generally taken to lose weight, although the medication can also deliver certain undesirable side effects that can sometimes require medical attention and the medication should be immediately stopped.

Such side effects can include an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives; an irregular heartbeat or very high blood pressure, severe headache, blurred vision; or hallucinations, abnormal behavior or confusion. Less serious side effects can also occur with Bontril and can include restlessness or tremor, nervousness or anxiety, headache or dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth or an unpleasant taste in the mouth, diarrhea or constipation, or impotence or changes in the user’s sex drive. Withdrawal of Bontril

The symptoms of withdrawal can be severe when a person develops a dependence on or a tolerance for Bontril. Minor symptoms have been known to appear eight to 12 hours after the most recent dose of the medication, while major symptoms are likely to appear within 16 hours and can last up to five days.

Withdrawal symptoms associated with cessation of Bontril can include, but are not limited to:

• Fatigue

• Depression

• Confusion

• Psychotic reaction

• Intense hunger

• Irritability

• Increased sleeping

• Hangover

• Disturbed sleep

• Violence

• Craving

Treatment of Bontril Addiction

The prolong use or addiction to Bontril can result in severe side effects and withdrawal symptoms, especially if the medication is abruptly stopped. An addiction may even put a person’s life at risk and therefore the individual must immediately seek professional help. The treatment of a Bontril addiction can vary depending upon the patient and the level of addiction.

A patient must be evaluated by a board-certified physician and a board-certified psychiatrist to determine the proper method for treatment. Detoxification through a comfortable method is often recommended by a physician and should be administered in a 24x7 environment. The comfortable detox method helps rid the body completely of the Bontril drug while also managing withdrawal symptoms.
