Addiction treatment centers are residential facilities that focus on alcohol and drug rehabilitation. Many addiction treatment centers offer assessment of co-occurring addictions and disorders.

Dual Diagnosis

Addiction treatment centers that specialized in dual diagnosis have clinical staff who can assess and make recommendations related to depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and impulse control disorders among other typically co-occurring issues in people with addiction.

Not all addiction treatment centers have the clinical staff needed to appropriately assess and treat these psychiatric diagnoses. When assessing an addiction treatment center it is critical to ask about the qualifications of the staff and their expertise in the treatment of depression and other co-occurring issues. Other issues may co-occur with the addiction, such as:

  • PTSD - Trauma
  • ADHD - Attention Deficit

  • OCD - Obsessive-Compulsive disorders

There are also often co-occurring addictions with substance abuse, such as sex addiction, compulsive shopping, gambling addiction, and Internet addiction.

The top addiction treatment centers offer various modalities to treat the addiction and any co-occurring disorders so that they can match the patient appropriately with the treatment needed. Some of these treatment modalities include:

  • Somatic experiencing
  • Neurofeedback - EEG Biofeedback
  • EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
