Glycotuss
From Drug Rehab Wiki
Glycotuss DM is a brand name for a cough syrup that offers a combination of dextromethorphan and guaifensesin. It is also found under the brand name Robitussin DM. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that affects the signals in the brain that trigger the cough reflex. Guaifenesin acts as an expectorant.
With these features, Glycotuss DM is used to treat a cough, but is not known to be effective in the treatment of a cough caused by smoking, asthma or emphysema. Glycotuss DM can be purchased over-the-counter, but can often be found on the street to take as a recreational drug. Its use is often referred to as Robo-tripping or skittling, the former related to the Robitussin DM form.
Brand name medications that are similar in makeup to Glycotuss-DM include Allfen DM, Altarussin DM, Aquatab DM, Benylin Expectorant, Drituss DM, Extuss LA, Fenesin DM IR, Guaifen DM, Mucinex Children's Cough, Mucinex DM, MucusRelief DM, Naldecon DX Liquigel, Relacon LAX, Respa-DM, Robitussin Cough & Congestion, Tussi-Bid, Tussi-Organidin DM NR, Robitussin DM and Vicks 44E.

Abuses of Glycotuss DM
With the ease of acquisition and low cost, Glycotuss DM actually has a high potential for abuse. The cough syrup is also very easy to administer and provides the desired effect very quickly. The greatest concern for abuse is among teenagers and young adults. The Internet has also become increasingly flooded with extensive “how to” abuse information on a number of different websites.
When Glycotuss DM is abused, users often report a heightened sense of perceptual awareness, altered time perception and visual hallucinations. Abusers of the cough syrup tend to display hyper-excitability, lethargy, ataxia, slurred speech, sweating, hypertension, and/or nystagmus.
Effects of Glycotuss DM
Glycotuss DM taken in excessive amounts can produce feelings of drowsiness and relaxation. This feeling has been described by some users as being similar to marijuana. An individual is likely to feel their body begin to slow and feel more at ease while the brain acts at a reduced capacity.
When Glycotuss DM is taken as more than the prescribed amount, it becomes the equivalent of a hallucinogenic drug such as LSD. Side effects of this drug can include allergic reactions: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. More serious side effects include severe dizziness, anxiety, restless feeling, or nervousness; confusion, hallucinations; or slow, shallow breathing.
Withdrawal of Glycotuss DM
Some individuals do take to consuming too much Glycotuss DM – even with its unappealing taste – and can develop an addiction. Much like that of narcotic drugs or prescription medications, if a person develops a dependence on Glycotuss DM, problems arise when the medication is abruptly discontinued. If the individual stops taking the cough syrup abruptly, withdrawal symptoms often occur.
Any and all of the following symptoms can occur in the Glycotuss DM withdrawal stage:
· Restlessness
· Muscle aches
· Bone aches
· Insomnia
· Diarrhea
· Vomiting
· Cold flashes
Treatment of Glycotuss DM Abuse
An individual can develop a dependence and an addiction on Glycotuss DM if it is taken too long or in too high of doses. The withdrawal process has the ability to be life-threatening if not properly monitored and it is important that those with an addiction seek the help they need to stop taking the drug and to learn how to function normally without it.
A board-certified physician and a board-certified psychiatrist should be consulted to begin the process. Detoxification is often required to cleanse the body of this drug and a quality treatment center will recommend a comfortable detox using withdrawal medications specific to the abuse of Glycotuss DM or the dextromethorphan drug. A full physical on a person is required to determine the right medications for comfortable detox to ensure a safe and full recovery.
